A character’s Service Jacket begins at Age 17 (for Andorrans, Betazoids, Deltans, Humans, Tellarites, Trill, and any races with a similar lifespan (Standard for most of the Federation). Vulcan characters begin their Service Jacket at Age 35 due to their extended lifespan and expanded primary and secondary educational experience.

Characters at this point can spend up to 150 Skill points to improve any skills listed in the Civilian skill listing. (Vulcans may spend up to 250 Skill points in this manner)

Every term that a character serves in their career is recorded in their Service Jacket and advances the character’s age 4 years. The player can choose to end their character development at the end of any given term and enter the character into the campaign.

Each Term completed in StarFleet promotes the character one grade in rank

For each Term served a character may select one Beneficial Trait that they qualify for. Players may choose to select one Adverse Trait in order to select a second Beneficial Trait.
