Horizon Mission Log 1

The Wolves of Space

Adventure Log 1 – The Wolves of Space

Stardate 3367: The USS Horizon has been dispatched to the San Viggo Cluster to survey the civilizations there. All five of the San Viggo cultures are pre-warp civilizations all within 18.721369 light years of each other. Their proximity to each other has allowed broadcast signals from each world to reach each of the other worlds int he cluster. Although broacast signals from each world can be received by the others, the distances involved with electromagnetic spectrum communications (like radio, or long-distance ELF band transmissions), still take far too much time to continue a real-time dialogue between the cultures. Still, the technology they have reached, has allowed each of the five civilizations to progress in a symbiosis, still distinct in it’s own culture, but at a technological parity.

The Horizon is ordered to spend 30 Standard days gathering immediate cultural and technological data from each of the inhabited worlds in the San Viggo Cluster and transmit all observed data via subspace transmission to Starbase 29 for the Federation Sociological Science department to evaluate. Since their mutual discoveries of each other 144 standard years ago, it is believed that the San Viggo Cultures will progress to warp-capable very quickly. First Contact from the Federation should follow son after.

The Horizon is reminded, despite the sophistication of the cultures within the San Viggo Cluster, each one remains a pre-warp civilization and the Prime Directive is still in effect. Under no circumstances is the Horizon or any Federation personnel to make contact with any of the San Viggo cultures. Furthermore, due to the observed technological and cultural sophistication observed to this point, the Horizon is restricted from using active sensors as a means of collecting data from the worlds. Only passive scans and collection methods will be used in the execution of this mission.
